How can I connect a USB web cam to an Ethernet network?
I have several Logitech USB webcams. THey need to be placed at least 25' from my video server and this is farther than the USB exemplar will suport. Therefore I requisite to either buy USB extenders or proselytize the USB to Ethernet. What is the first settling?
Surely, the stew is that you've got the the matter tools for the job. USB is designed for peripherals in a desktop medium, and is not meant to manipulate over extended distances. (This is because of limitations of EM propagation on USB matter lines.)
That said, as hanker as the reserve is less than 25 meters, you can buy a batch of USB hubs, and glue them serially using 5 meter cables. This will get the job done, but it's a prime kludge. Up-market and messy.
The in order settling is to use either network cameras (I like both Axis and Panasonic), or conventional surveillance-strain cameras that convey video by RF (wireless or cajole). These can be engaged to a network camera server.
